영국제 모니터의 전통은 BBC로 부터 출발합니다.
BBC는 대한민국 방송국들처럼 단순한 방송제작, 송출을 넘어 방송기술 개발에 대한 오랜 역사와 전통을 갖고 있습니다.
1960년대에 시작된 방송제작을 위한 사운드 시스템 연구 과정 속에서 방송용 모니터 스피커 개발은 이후 영국의 스피커 회사들에 커다란 영향을 끼쳤습니다.
그 중에서도 라디오 방송을 스튜디오에서 모니터링하기 위해 BBC에서 설계한 LS3/5a를 위시한 LS로 시작되는 스피커들은 영국 북셀프 스피커 전반에 질적인 향상을 가져왔습니다.
이것이 영국제 모니터가 이 부문에서 강세를 보이는 이유이기도 하며, 소위 브리티쉬 사운드라 불리 우는 영국의 북셀프 스피커들이 세계적인 지명도를 얻게 된 계기가 되기도 했습니다.
 

Harbeth는 바로 BBC 모니터 스피커로 유명한 Spendor, Rogers와 함께 BBC 소형 모니터 스피커를 제작해 왔습니다.
Harbeth의 창업자인 Dudley Harwood (Harbeth의 Har는 이름에서 따왔다)는 BBC에서 Spencer Hughes와 함께 BBC의 연구개발팀 엔지니어로서 LS시리즈의 BBC 모니터 개발을 담당한 엔지니어였습니다.
Harbeth는 BBC의 다양한 모니터들 위주의 스피커 개발을 진행해 왔습니다. BBC의 전통대로 개발, 제작되는 스피커 시스템들은 Monitor 스피커로서 프로용 스피커로 구분되며, 같은 스피커들을 가정용 하이파이 스피커로 변형시킨 모델들은 HL (Harbeth Loudspeaker)시리즈로 제작됩니다.
따라서, Harbeth에는 플로어스탠딩 타입의 스피커는 없습니다.

The all-new RADIAL2™ coned Harbeth P3ESR is the ultimate mini monitor, the latest in a lineage that stretches back twenty years to the original Harbeth P3 and even further to the BBC's pioneering LS3/5A.

A generation of home users and studio professionals has relied on these Harbeth minis to fill even the smallest room with a full, warm, natural sound. The P3ESR is the culmination of the designer's four-years research into upgrading the Harbeth mini. From the new removable back panel for improved cabinet damping to the radically new bass unit yielding a wide smooth frequency response, every detail of these astonishing loudspeakers has been thoroughly honed and optimised. The objective has always been to create the genuine Harbeth sound in miniature: the P3ESR (R for RADIAL™) is that much closer to reality.

The P3ESR's exceptional all-round performance flows from the perfect integration of the cabinet, drivers and crossover. Harbeth's world exclusive RADIAL2™ cone technology has been lifted from the larger Harbeths and is now at the heart of this new-generation P3ESR. Designed and made by Harbeth UK, the new RADIAL2™ equipped 110mm (5") bass/midrange driver (a first for Harbeth) offers the hallmark clarity and naturalness of the larger Harbeths. Breathtaking transparency, real bass and fantastic holographic imaging endow the P3ESR with grand, captivating, transparent sound presented in a conveniently small and beautiful cabinet. A new variant of the P3 family's well proven 19mm tweeter perfectly compliments the wholly new woofer and its open-weave protection keeps little fingers away but lets the fine musical details flow through.

Not only is the P3ESR capable of being used in a wide range of listening environments but it is optimised to get the best from any amplifier, even smaller ones because the electrical load is so amplifier-friendly. Designed for 'free-field' use, the optimal bass-mid-top balance is achieved when the speakers are away from walls and on suitable stands at about tweeter-ear height. As with all Harbeths, the expensively engineered SuperGrille™ gives the loudspeaker an uninterrupted view into the room and is designed to remain fitted during listening.

Internally, the multi-function crossover divides the sonic spectrum between the drive units perfectly aligning the acoustic output into a seamless whole, exactly as you would hear standing at the microphone. This multi-functionality requires many expensive components chosen for their excellent acoustic, electrical and long life properties.
