The 033 DVD Player is our first video player and it sports many of the same features as the 006 and 001 CD Players. Our design goal for the 033 was that multi-channel video playback from DVDs as well as two-channel music reproduction from CDs should be of equally uncompromising quality.

The 033 impresses with extraordinary full musical sound which until now had only been achieved by our top-of-the-line transport/DAC-combos 969/970 and 979/980 as well as our CD Players 001 and 006. Musical warmth, focus and detail immediately enthrall the listener. The combination of a modified Philips DVD transport, the 96/24-bit upsampling function with corresponding conversion and sophisticated analog filters could hardly be topped by any other DVD Player on the world market today.

Like all other Burmester components the 033 offers, of course, balanced outputs to take full advantage of its musical capabilities. The 033 comes in our standard housing of 340 mm depth (which we use from Rondo to Reference in all Burmester product lines) and in comparison to the competition it offers a more sophisticated power supply section. Its power supply is almost identical to that in the 001.

The 033 offers upsampling to 96kHz/24-bit for all incoming signals on all three digital inputs, no matter if their sampling rate is 33kHz, 44,1kHz or 48kHz. A digital sound processor may be looped-in using digital in- or outputs. The switch to activate this function is located inside the housing.

• The design largely resembles that of the 006
• The new Burmester transport is based on the Philips OEM unit SD-3.0. However, the control circuit board which determines the sound quality has been re-designed by Burmester Audiosysteme using our extensive knowledge in Burmester belt-drive technology also used in the 969, 979 and 001
• The loading mechanism has been modified by Burmester
• The transport of the 033 is controlled by a high-precision oscillator (similar to the 969 and 979) which is renowned for high thermal stability and extremely low phase noise.
• The 033 takes DVD, Video CD, Super Video CD, all MP3 formats as well as CD-R, CD-RW and Audio CD
• Disc formats:
  • CD-DA
  • Video-CD 1.0, 1.1 und 2.0
  • D-VCD
  • CD-ROM single session for software download
  • CD Bridge for download
  • CD-R single session
  • CD-RW single session
  • S-VCD, Chaoji
  • S-VCD, Shinco
  • S-VCD CVD
  • D-SVCD
  • DVD-Video SL, DL, DS
  • DVD-R/-RW, video
  • DVD+R/-RW, 4.7 GB video
  • Hybrid Super Audio CD, CD Player only
  • MP3 (CD)
• The electronic controls for the transport unit of the 033 are hand-crafted by Burmester in Berlin

D-VCD and D-SVCD are not standard formats. By not following specifications in several ways these discs contain more data than the standard allows. Most of the available discs play. However, since the deviation from the standard in individual cases is not known we cannot guarantee that discs will work flawlessly in all cases.

For video processing the 033 uses the Faroudja Progressive Scan board. It delivers the video signal directly and progressively in YUV (only NTSC).

• 50 VA transformer, dual-filtered and stabilized direct current
• Separate power supplies for transport and DAC unit.
• Overall filter capacitance of 44000 µF

• Upsampling of the digital data stream to 96kHz/24bit before D/A Conversion (for CD as well as the other digital inputs)
• Temperature-stabilized precision quartz oscillator in the SRC upsamples all incoming signals to 96kHz/24bit (from CDs as well as other digital inputs). Together with the SRC the precision oscillator provides for ultra-low jitter
• Proven 24bit digital filters and 96kHz/24bit Burmester conversion technology
• Balanced and unbalanced outputs and DC-coupling all the way to the output terminals (completely DC-coupled signal path)
• The four (for balanced operation!) hand-selected op-amps in the output stages (similar to those in the 970 Reference DAC) are some of the best available on the world market
• Signal can be inverted in the digital domain using dip switches
• Output level can be adjusted by +6dB
• Internal switch for digital loop (to loop-in signal processors)

• 2 x Euro AV (1x TV and 1x AUX)
• 1 x Composite
• 1 x S-Video
• Audio balanced & unbalanced

• 1 x RCA
• 1 x LWL (TOSLINK)

• 2 x RCA
• 1 x LWL (TOSLINK)

• 1 x XLR (balanced) stereo
• 2 x RCA (unbalanced) stereo

The new all-metal remote control unit 003 is supplied as standard as is our proprietary 1.5 m AC cord Burmester POWER
